Akiyama is boring so Bisping directs trash talk toward some fans

Talking smack is almost always part of Michael Bisping's game before he fights. But with a polite opponent like Yoshihiro Akiyama, the Brit admits that he's having a tough time hyping the fight and getting himself a little extra juiced. There's simply little to pull from with Akiyama. During his most recent vlog entry, Bisping smiles enthusiastically when he says there's still a few days left before the fight to stir something up.He'll have the backing of the crowd come Saturday night in London, but that doesn't mean fans around the world are rooting for him. In fact, it's a good bet 80-90 percent of viewers will be pushing for Akiyama. Bisping just rubs people the wrong way.  In a very good video interview, Bisping tells Gareth A. Davies from The Telegraph that often times, he's a victim because his words are taken out of context. He relayed a recent story where he stated on Twitter that he doesn't often drive the free Range Rover he got as a gift for coaching on Season 9 of "The Ultimate Fighter" because it's a gas-guzzler. Bisping said that comment turned into an Internet thread bashing him for being an ungrateful jerk. The middleweight contender also feels like he can't win now with fans. Even though he toned down the nasty talk before his last two fights, he still got booed at the weigh-ins and on fight night. "I'm not to walk out there all sheepish saying 'oh, I hope you like me' when they're booing me for no good reason," said Bisping. "If they're going to boo me, then pardon my language, then [expletive] boo this. I'll give you something to boo about. And you'll being booing when I kick the guy's ass Saturday night."There's no issue here with Bisping. Sometimes he may overstep a bit, but he's one of a handful of mixed martial artists who simply get it. The fight is only part of the job. Selling the card, raising your own profile and giving casual fans a reason to watch is also a huge part. His previous work is part of why UFC 120 will be the highest-grossing MMA fight in the history of the U.K. It's also the reason the UFC can pit two guys, who are only ranked in the Nos. 8-15 range worldwide at middleweight, in the main event of a televised card.
