2011 WSBK Monza QP2 Result: Corser Fastest, Haslam Retains Pole

Leon Haslam remains on provisional pole for tomorrow's World Superbike races, but it was his BMW teammate Troy Corser who topped the second qualifying session at Monza on Saturday lunchtime. The Australian veteran improved his time by six tenths of a second to take 3rd spot on the provisional grid. Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz made an even bigger improvement, slashing nine tenths off his best time from yesterday, while BMW Italia's Ayrton Badovini improved a fraction to take 5th on the provisional grid. Title candidates Marco Melandri and Carlos Checa also took a big step forward on Saturday, Melandri improving by a quarter of a second, while Checa went six tenths faster, to move up to 7th and 10th respectively.

The session had started late after a red flag during the World Supersport practice had delayed the start of WSBK practice, and then another red flag during QP2 - caused by the engine of Fabrizio Lai's Honda Fireblade letting go and oiling up the track - saw the sessions further delayed.

The final grid will be settled during Superpole this afternoon. Most notable absentee from Superpole is Castrol Honda's Ruben Xaus, the Spaniard falling three tenths short of making the final cut of 16 riders.
